Seekonk Youth Basketball News and Updates

RESIDENCY - Seekonk Rec and Seekonk Travel Basketball are open to Seekonk Residents only. Your child must be a resident of Seekonk in order to participate.

TRAVEL SEASON UPDATE - Metrowest Basketball has decided to move ahead with the Travel Season with some Covid-19 modifications. Seekonk Travel Basketball we will not hold tryouts this season. This means, if this is your first time signing, then you will not be able to participate (this does not include 1st year teams -4th grade boys & girls and 5th grade girls). Per Massachusetts requirement-all players must wear a mask at all times-including while playing and practicing. (Masks also required for all spectators, coaches, and officials) The season will be 8 games beginning the 1st weekend in January. All games will be at neutral sites (ie Mass Premeir/Mansfield). Seekonk will not allow us to host any home games. Games could be on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. As of now, each player will be allowed 2 spectators each during games. They are waiting for clarification for children/siblings.

A major problem for us is access to gyms. Normally, we would be able to use the Seekonk schools for practice during the week. We do not know when -if ever- the schools will allow us in. One solution would be for us to practice at Wheeler on Saturdays. We are also looking at getting expanded time at another private facility. Those are options that we are hopeful for but they are not guaranteed and they also come at an additional cost in a rental fee that we normally wouldn't incur in our own Seekonk schools. There is an outside chance that we could not have practice at all - like everything else - it is very fluid. We haven't come up with a cost yet but anticipate that it will be similar to last season. Coaches are reaching out to teams. Please email [email protected] with any questions.

REC SEASON UPDATE - We are not cancelling the Rec Season however it is being indefinitely postponed. The Board is continuing to monitor all of our options and will send out more updates as information becomes available to us.
